People & Lifestyle

A colorful, cheery small town full of life and character, it’s easy to see why so many people have fallen in love with Boerne over the years. Considered one of Texas's best places to raise a family, thanks to its tight-knit community and excellent school district, Boerne is a safe, clean town famous for its warm hospitality.

Not only is there always some event or festival happening on Main Street, but Boerne also offers residents and visitors alike unfettered wilderness access. Whether you want to go swimming at Boerne City Lake Park or visit one of two natural living caves, this is a one-of-a-kind hill country town with endless options for outdoor recreation.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

For exceptional shopping, there is no better place than the historic district. You’ll find a strip of specialty stores and boutiques selling homewares, fashion, and antiques along Main Street. This famed street is also commonly referred to as the Hill Country Mile and is known for selling a little bit of everything. You can stop in at one of the bakeries, coffee shops, or wine bars for a quick bite between shopping trips.

Feed the ducks and geese swimming along Cibolo Creek at River Road Park, just off Main Street. Then, go on a hike along the many trails weaving through the Cibolo Nature Center, a world-class facility dedicated to research and education.

Boerne has many fine restaurants, including The Creek, a perfect date night spot. This cozy, rustic establishment overlooks the gorgeous Cibolo Creek. For classic Southern home cooking, visit Peggy on the Green, named after Chef Mark Bohanan’s mother.

The Dodging Duck Brewhaus was Boerne’s first official craft brewery. Their rotating tap offers everything from wheat ales to doppelbocks and IPAs. And speaking of the town’s German heritage, Little Gretel Restaurant is a bright, whimsical German eatery specializing in schnitzel and strudel.

Things to Do

Boerne’s claim to fame is the Dickens on Main event, the area’s biggest, premier Christmas event that transforms the entire town into a magical winter wonderland every Thanksgiving weekend. Take photos with Santa, ride down Main Street in a horse-drawn carriage, appreciate the ice sculptures, or indulge in some holiday shopping during this time-honored event.

To honor the town’s German roots, every Father’s Day weekend, Boerne hosts the Berges Festival. Since 1967, this event has taken over Main Street to honor the town’s heritage. On Labor Day weekend, bring your family to the annual Kendall County Fair. Other yearly events include Boerne Boo, Hot Rod Nights, the Farmers’ Market, Chocolate Walk, and more.

Schools

The Boerne Independent School District is highly-rated; it includes public high schools Boerne High School and Champion High School. Notable private schools include Geneva School of Boerne and Crestmont Christian Preparatory School.
